The elevators

The grain elevators at the Port of Montreal are an important part of Canadian history that is closely linked with the Lachine Canal, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the industrial expansion of Canada.

It’s a vibrant, yet sad example of a fading and crumbling past. I first saw the elevators in 1979 while on a Great Lakes deployment on a Canadian warship…


If you’re in Montreal this is an area that is well worth the detour, as it is adjacent to Old Town Montreal, the Lachine Canal and close to the site of the Montreal Olympics.
