A dirty girl project

That’s dirty girl as in I was covered in dirt after shovelling, spreading, raking and then seeding what was once a gravel driveway.

It was a lot of work but well worth it as I am creating some cooling green space around the house, improving the drainage, and reducing the dust that blows into the house when you have a gravel driveway. It also just plain looks pretty, or will look pretty, as I seeded the area with drought resistant grass and clover. I’m hoping that natures little yellow and black helpers like the clover.

This was once all gravel and dust – now it has veggie gardens, and my terribly informal rock garden that is home to a lighthouse, some rescued duck decoys, a brick rocket stove, and some wonderful herbs, mint and tomatoes.
