The water level on the Trent Severn waterway is maintained by the locks, water level control dams, and by the dams for hydroelectric generating stations.

This control dam is just upstream of Frankford – it’s also adjacent to the Sill Island generating station and the upstream approach channel to the Frankford lock.

A lot of water was being released on the day that I was here – so much water that there was localized flooding that reminded me of floods that occurred every year in Comox when I was very young.

As pretty as this is, please consider staying home and enjoying the dam through the safety of your computer – For public safety, it is important that people stay away from all dams, water control structures, lock chambers and lock gates.
