A bit of Port Hope

Port Hope is an interesting place due to it’s rather jaded history, and because there are a lot of churches there – all housed in old and rather imposing buildings.

St. John’s Anglican Church and the church school next door. Construction of the church began seventeen days after Confederation, and was completed in 1869 at a total cost of $18,300.00.

Port Hope United has an equally imposing building, but a decided sense of humour. The corner stone for the church was laid on September 2nd, 1874.
