If you travel up Highway 19 to Sayward, and then drive down to Kelsey Bay, you can see, and touch a very interesting piece of coastal history.
I stopped to explore and touch what was at one time the BC Ferries terminal in Kelsey Bay.
1966 saw the launch of BC Ferries’ Inside Passage service, with sailings on Route 10 between Kelsey Bay and Prince Rupert. When the Island Highway was extended to Port Hardy, BC Ferries built a new ferry terminal in Bear Cove, and in 1985 shifted the Inside Passage trip to run between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert.
