Located in central Vancouver Island 15 km east of Port Alberni, Cameron Lake is on the north side of Highway 4. The lake is between Mount Arrowsmith to the south and Mount Wesley to the north. The entire southern shore of the 477 hectare lake is incorporated in the Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.
The lake was named by Captain Richards in 1860 for David Cameron, the first Chief Justice of Vancouver Island.
Cameron Lake is a sight that you get used to if you want to visit Port Alberni, or go beyond to Bamfield, Tofino, or Uclulet – Highway 4 is the only way to get there by road unless you travel to Port Renfrew and take a bone shaking logging road – about a 300 km diversion.
